Those are some good tips Wyatt. Another would be to make sure the tubes are clean also. That doesn't affect performance, per say, but will help prolong the life of a plastic cabinet. Dirty tubes tend to hold and radiate more heat, which can warp or even melt a plastic cabinet.

Ive done probably 50-60 aa5s now so Id thought Id post a few hints.
AA5s are greatly affected by drifting resistors. If just a couple are bad then it will screw up the whole radio. alignment is very inportant. AA5s are a strech of performance already so not having them aligned properly will decrease performance greatly. A good set of tubes helps. So does a good cleaning. What? A good cleaning?!? yes, a clean radio is a happy radio. so, CLEAN YOUR RADIOS and happy restoring! ![]() |

Hi, just saw your reply. Bought a complete 53-560 in working condition
off Ebay a few nights ago. Should be able to build one very nice one out of the two. Thanks Rob |

Yeah, they are both 3 way, but only battery power for now.
The G.E. (red one) has developed a new problem.. the osc. keeps dropping out. Tried a known good tube but made no difference. Oh well if we didn't have to work on them it wouldn't be fun ![]() |
